The new issue of The Pen & Press, the NCPA newsletter, is now posted.
This issue has some fine articles, including Carlos Alcalá’s informative view of the advantages of a small publisher, a “Member Spotlight” on Juanita J. Martin, and some photos of the December “meet and greet” opportunity at Merrill Gardens Retirement Community, where members showed their books, answered questions, and talked about their accomplishments.
The issue also includes notice of the PMA Publishing University scholarship opportunity, with a deadline looming, an early look at the planned April NCPA conference, and notice of the NCPA book competition, also with a deadline coming up in mid-January.
The article and notice submission deadline for the next issue (March-April 2008) is Feb. 22, 2008.
Merry Christmas (or other holiday of choice, or no holiday, if that is your choice), and Happy New Year!
Oh, while I am posting anyway, remember that renewals for those whose memberships expire at the end of this month are now due, and the roster will be purged on or about February 1st. I mailed renewal notices, with return envelopes, in November. See the November-December Pen & Press for details, including mailing address for renewals, if you did not receive or have misplaced (read: tossed with the junk mail) the renewal notice. That issue also included a list of those due for renewal.

The September-October issue of The Pen & Press, the NCPA newsletter, is now posted.
This issue has news of members and their books and a special feature article by N. W. Miller on the specialized, but valuable, topic of the apostrophe and its abuse. (Trust me, the article will prove interesting and valuable to careful writers and to publishers, especially to those who at any point use the ubiquitous Microsoft Word.)
Check it out.
I welcome comments.
And I will welcome someone to take over the newsletter editor role in the spring.

The new issue of The Pen & Press, the NCPA newsletter, is now available.
This issue has news of books by members, a valuable article about digital printing by Ed Mitchell, and more, including the notice of our July 14 meeting speaker.
The deadline for the next issue, September-October, is September 15, 2007 — a month later than usual, what with summer and all. However, that is a firmer deadline than usual, and I will not guarantee that I will actually wait even that long. If you have something to submit for that issue, it is better to have it to me before September 1st, just in case.
